A corrosion pit is a local notch that can initiate cracking under cyclic load. Static salt-spray hours alone do not predict dynamic service life.

Corrosion and stress amplify each other

Corrosion damages surface integrity while cyclic tension grows defects. Failure can occur much earlier than for the same geometry in a dry environment.

Prevent trapped liquid

Coil contacts, hook roots, interfaces and closed cavities retain water or cleaner. Drainage, ventilation and galvanic compatibility matter.

Include coating damage

Assembly scratches, coil rub and tool contact can break protection. Samples should experience real assembly before environmental and cycle testing.

Preserve surface evidence

Record rust location, wear and coating condition before cleaning a fracture. Aggressive cleaning can remove evidence of the crack origin.
