ENGINEERING OPTIONS
Materials, forms and quality controls
01Material options
- Music wire: high-cycle room-temperature torque mechanisms
- SUS304 / SUS316: humid and corrosive environments
- 65Mn: general hardware and door controls
02Forms and processes
- Single, double and multi-coil torsion forms
- Straight, bent, long and custom legs
- Left / right hand and installed preload angle
03Critical inspection
- Body diameter, coils and free angle
- Torque at angle and torque rate
- Leg position, length and fatigue life
APPLICATION FIT
Typical applications
Double and single torsion springs, custom angles and coils, for electronics and automotive
01Locks and hinges
Handles, latches, doors and furniture hinges.
02Clamping
Clips, tools, brackets and hold-down mechanisms.
03Automotive and electronics
Switches, covers, seats and small controls.
DESIGN NOTESEngineering notes
Body diameter changes as a torsion spring works. Allow space for movement, tolerance and friction at the mandrel and housing.
Moment arm directly affects measured torque, so drawing and fixture must use the same grip point and angular datum.

Common design questions
Why are left and right hand often confused? +
Hand needs a viewing direction and load arrow. The word “left” alone can be interpreted differently from another view.
Can the spring be preloaded during assembly? +
Yes, but preload changes starting torque and remaining travel and must be included in design and life validation.
